KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 10 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Technology Development Corporation (MTDC) today reinforced its role as the nation’s deep-tech enabler as Aeromart Summit Kuala Lumpur (ASKL) 2025 opens at the MATRADE Exhibition and Convention Centre (MECC).

As Strategic Investment Partner to the Summit, MTDC is using the platform to connect Malaysian small and medium enterprises (SMEs) and technology companies directly with global original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), Tier-1 suppliers and maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) leaders in one of Southeast Asia’s most important aerospace business conventions.

Hosting exhibition, business-to-business (B2B) meetings and high-level summit sessions over 10–11 December 2025, ASKL 2025 is designed as a working marketplace where procurement leads, supply-chain decision-makers and technical teams engage in structured appointments to identify qualified suppliers and concrete business opportunities in aerospace and MRO.

Delivering on Malaysia’s Aerospace Blueprint and NIMP 2030

Malaysia’s aerospace ambitions are guided by the Malaysian Aerospace Industry Blueprint 2030, which targets RM55.2 billion in annual revenue and more than 32,000 high-income jobs by 2030. Today, the industry already counts over 230–240 aerospace-related firms, with activities concentrated in MRO and aero-manufacturing, and an expanding footprint in systems integration and engineering services.

Recent data indicates the sector supports around 30,000 skilled jobs nationally and attracted RM1.5 billion in approved investments in 2024, signalling strong momentum and investor confidence. These sectoral gains are aligned with the New Industrial Master Plan (NIMP) 2030, which positions aerospace as a strategic cluster under national missions to advance economic complexity, deepen technology adoption and strengthen supply-chain resilience.

“Malaysia is ready to take on a larger role in global aerospace”

In his opening address, MTDC Chairman YBhg. Tan Sri Abd Rahman Mamat emphasised that the Summit marks a step-change in how Malaysia positions itself in global aerospace supply chains, moving from passive participation to strategic contribution.

“Malaysia has built real capabilities in aerostructures, digital engineering, MRO and precision machining. The task now is to scale those capabilities, plug more of our SMEs into global programmes, and close the remaining gaps in certification, productivity and technology adoption. Aeromart Summit Kuala Lumpur 2025 is a platform for real conversations about real contracts,” he said.

MTDC’s Role: From Funding to Supplier Readiness and Future Talent

For more than three decades, MTDC has formed part of the backbone of Malaysia’s technology ecosystem, supporting over 900 local technology companies through funding, advisory and ecosystem-building programmes.

In aerospace and next-generation mobility, MTDC’s work focuses on three fronts:

1. Building industrial capability – by investing in and nurturing companies in precision engineering, automation, robotics, digital manufacturing and advanced materials that can supply into aerospace, automotive and wider mobility value chains.

2. Strengthening supplier readiness – by helping Malaysian firms understand OEM and Tier-1 requirements, navigate certification journeys and benchmark against global quality and delivery standards. ASKL 2025 serves as a key touchpoint in this process, matching these firms with international buyers in a structured way.

3. Future-proofing human capital – through MTDC’s talent programmes such as TENTRA and partnerships with industry and universities to equip engineers and technicians with skills in advanced machining, data analytics, digital twins and robotics, which are precisely the capabilities required in high-end aerospace and mobility manufacturing.

Aerospace Financing and Deep-Tech as Growth Engines

Ahead of ASKL2025, MTDC, together with financial partners MBSB Bank and MIDF, mobilised RM50 million in dedicated aerospace financing to support qualifying Malaysian companies as they invest in capacity upgrades, automation, certification and technology adoption.

MTDC Group Chief Executive Officer, Ts. Hj. Mohammad Hazani Hj. Hassan said this blend of financing, business-matching and technical support reflects MTDC’s mandate to drive deep technology adoption across strategic sectors, not just aerospace.

“When a Malaysian SME upgrades its machining capability for aerospace, that same capability can serve electric vehicle components, rail systems or advanced energy equipment. We are deliberately using aerospace as a test bed to lift our overall industrial base and our deep-tech readiness,” he noted.

He added that the Summit’s focus on advanced manufacturing, system integration, digitalisation and sustainability is consistent with Malaysia’s broader push under NIMP 2030 and the National Energy Transition Roadmap (NETR), which, among others, charts pathways for sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) and low-carbon aviation. Recent milestones such as the delivery of Malaysia’s first locally blended SAF to Malaysia Airlines at Kuala Lumpur International Airport further underline how aerospace, energy and technology policies are converging to support decarbonised growth.

MOSTI: Aerospace as a Test Bed for Frontier Technologies

In his keynote address, Secretary General of Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), YBhg. Datuk Seri Hj. Hasnol Zam Zam Hj. Ahmad highlighted that Malaysia’s aerospace story is about more than airframes and engines; it is about an ecosystem of digital engineering, AI-enabled design, robotics and advanced materials that can spill over into multiple sectors of the economy.

He stressed that Malaysia seeks to contribute to the global aerospace community as a reliable, progressive and outward-looking partner, grounded in engineering excellence and a strong pipeline of technical talent.

Turning Policy into Pipelines of Real Business

MTDC sees ASKL 2025 as a concrete mechanism to translate policy documents and blueprints into actual supplier appointments, technology partnerships and investment leads. The Summit is expected to draw OEMs, Tier-1 suppliers, international buyers and regional SMEs across the aerospace and MRO value chain, with personalised B2B matchmaking, technical workshops and summit sessions on topics such as supply-chain resilience, sustainability, cyber-security and digital transformation in aerospace operations.

“We are under no illusion that one event can solve every challenge,” Ts. Hj. Mohammad Hazani said. “But if, over these two days, Malaysian companies walk away with a clearer view of what it takes to be on a global bid list, concrete follow-up discussions with OEMs, and financing pathways to upgrade their capabilities, then Aeromart will have done its job and so will we.”
