KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 13 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian Wood Expo (MWE) 2025 — the Malaysian Timber Council’s (MTC) flagship international trade show, has wrapped up on a resounding high, achieving record-breaking sales, unprecedented global participation, and a renewed industry-wide drive towards sustainability and regulatory readiness.
Held from 10 –11 November 2025 at the Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC), the two-day Expo attracted more than 1,900 trade visitors and featured 127 exhibitors from 19 countries, including China, Germany, Austria, Uruguay, and Thailand. The strong turnout reaffirmed MWE’s role as a premier global platform for timber trade, innovation, and policy dialogue.
MWE 2025 recorded RM194.5 million in confirmed sales, surpassing the RM180.8 million achieved in 2023 and RM145.8 million in 2019, signalling renewed market confidence in Malaysia’s timber industry.
The Incoming Buying Mission (IBM), organised in collaboration with MATRADE, facilitated over 350 targeted business meetings between Malaysian exporters and 78 buyers from 27 countries including the United States, Türkiye, Mexico, the UAE, Sri Lanka, India, Greece, Cyprus, South Africa, Germany, Maldives, Egypt and China. These engagements generated RM177.6 million in export deals, reflecting the rising global appetite for Malaysian timber and wood-based products.
Complementing this effort, the Inbound Overseas Suppliers Programme (IOSP) connected 33 Malaysian manufacturers with 18 international raw material suppliers from Australia, Austria, Canada, Chile, Denmark, New Zealand, Sweden, Türkiye, USA and Uruguay— resulting in RM16.9 million worth of raw material orders, a sharp increase from the RM7 million achieved in 2023.
This year’s MWE marked a strategic shift moving beyond product and trade showcases to emphasise sustainability, market insight and regulatory preparedness. A newly introduced International Conference brought together industry leaders, policy experts, and global buyers to address pressing topics such as EUDR compliance, ESG adoption, supply chain resilience, and global trade measures — providing participants with critical insights to future-proof their businesses. The Conference was participated by over 270 participants, who contributed actively to the discussions during the event.
With record-breaking trade results and stronger international participation, MWE 2025 was hailed as the most successful edition yet. The Expo not only reaffirmed Malaysia’s position as a strategic timber hub but also underscored its vision to future-proof the industry in the face of EUDR, tariffs, and evolving global trade dynamics.
