GEORGE TOWN, Aug 5 (Bernama) -- The fourth instalment of Penang Heritage Photography Fiesta 4.0 culminates to a professional photography exhibition held at The Whiteaways Arcade from 4 - 23 August 2025, showcasing 70 finalist entries from its competition, as well as 30 photographs from two notable professional photographers.
The initiative is jointly organised by PPB Group Berhad and its property division PPB Properties, in collaboration with SONY Malaysia. It is also supported by its strategic partners Penang Hill Corporation, Penang Green Council and George Town Festival.
The shortlisted finalist photographs incorporate entries from both youth category for those aged 15 to 25 years old and open category for all ages, displaying the top photographs selected from 229 photography competition submissions.
The highlight of the exhibition includes a collection of 15 curated photographs from renowned photojournalist, David ST Loh, showcasing his interpretation of this year’s theme. Kiah Ng, a SONY Alpha Guru, will also be displaying 15 photographs of various birds for public viewing alongside David Loh.
Centred around capturing Penang’s green heritage and natural beauty, this year’s theme aims to capture the often-forgotten natural biodiversity in the dynamic state. Both the competition and exhibition aim to raise awareness and spotlight the environmental issues faced by Penang’s inhabitants, as well as its diverse indigenous flora and fauna.
By displaying the images for the public to enjoy, the exhibition hopes to inspire a deeper appreciation for Penang’s natural beauty, raise awareness on ecological issues and support our very own artistic homegrown talents, especially the younger generation.
Set against the backdrop of Penang’s rich ecological and cultural landscape, the entire Fiesta invites the public to discover, document and celebrate the state’s green heritage through their lenses.
This year’s Fiesta boasts the largest prize pool to date, with 18 attractive prizes worth over RM70,000. Hands-on photography and videography workshops and photo walks led by SONY experts had also been organised at The Whiteaways Arcade, Han Chiang College University and Equator College.
The Fiesta has seen an enthusiastic participation during the workshops attended by more than 240 photography and videography hobbyists and enthusiasts from all walks of life, underscoring the importance of documenting and preserving the natural beauty of Penang through the arts.
All finalists will have an opportunity for their work to be showcased on a cinema screen during the initiative’s official closing ceremony at GSC Gurney Plaza on 23 August 2025. The winners and prizes will also be presented during the event.
