KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 27 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian National News Agency (Bernama) and Hainan International Media Centre (HIMC) today launched a special documentary highlighting Hainan's development as a Free Trade Port and the opportunities it presents for greater regional engagement.
Titled “2026: Towards The Hainan Free Trade Port”, the documentary was jointly launched by Bernama Chairman Datuk Seri Wong Chun Wai and Hainan Daily Press Group President Shang Lin, who is leading the HIMC delegation.
Wong said the documentary was timely as Hainan continued to strengthen its role as a major gateway for trade, investment, tourism and regional cooperation.
“For Malaysia and ASEAN, these developments present important opportunities for deeper engagement with Hainan and China,” he said.
Wong said the launch also reflected the value of media cooperation in promoting accurate information, mutual understanding and stronger people-to-people ties.
“As media organisations, we have an important role in promoting accurate information, mutual understanding and stronger people-to-people ties,” he said.
He expressed hope that the launch would mark another step towards closer collaboration.
The documentary explores Hainan's transformation and emerging opportunities in areas including trade, investment, tourism and education.
Produced by a Bernama TV production team with facilitation and on-ground support from HIMC, it was filmed during a seven-day production visit to Hainan from July 4 to 11.
It features key locations including Yangpu Port, Sanya International Yacht Center, Hainan Boao Lecheng International Medical Tourism Pilot Zone, Haikou Qilou Old Street and Xinglong Coffee Culture Park.
“2026: Towards The Hainan Free Trade Port” will premiere on Bernama TV tonight at 8.30 pm and will also be available on Bernama TV’s official digital platforms.
