KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia, July 2 (Bernama) -- Hydrogen Malaysia (H2Malaysia), formerly known as the Hydrogen Industry Alliance Malaysia (H₂IAM), founded by NMB (NanoMalaysia Berhad), an agency under the Ministry of Science, Technology and Innovation (MOSTI), continues to serve as Malaysia's unified industry platform for the development of the hydrogen economy. Bringing together stakeholders from across the hydrogen value chain, the alliance aims to foster a coordinated, commercially driven, and globally competitive hydrogen industry that supports Malaysia's energy transition and economic growth ambitions.

Established to strengthen collaboration between industry, government, academia, and technology providers, H₂Malaysia plays a key role in advancing the sector through policy advocacy, industry engagement, investment facilitation, technology adoption, talent development, and the promotion of industry standards aligned with international best practices.

H₂ Malaysia comprises 44 member organisations nationwide, reflecting growing industry confidence and a shared commitment to advancing a robust hydrogen ecosystem in Malaysia. Through strategic partnerships, structured stakeholder engagement, and targeted market development initiatives, the alliance continues to strengthen industry coordination while creating opportunities for collaboration across the hydrogen value chain.

This commitment was demonstrated through H₂Malaysia's inaugural participation at the Asia Pacific Green Hydrogen (APGH) 2026 conference and exhibition, held in Kuching, Sarawak, in June 2026. Alongside NMB (NanoMalaysia Berhad), the alliance showcased Malaysia's growing hydrogen capabilities, together with member companies including SEDC Energy (SEDCE), Hydrexia Sdn Bhd, and HyPERtech Industries Sdn Bhd (HISB), highlighting advancements in hydrogen production, storage, distribution, and mobility solutions.

Beyond Malaysia, H₂Malaysia continues to strengthen regional and international collaboration to support industry growth and market access. Key milestones include the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Korea Hydrogen Alliance (H2Korea) in October 2025, and the appointment of Malaysia as the representative to the Global Hydrogen Industrial Association Alliance (GHIAA) in December 2025, during the alliance's 8th Annual General Meeting in South Korea. These collaborations support Malaysia's aspiration to supply up to 10 per cent of hydrogen demand in key markets such as Japan and South Korea by 2030, while reinforcing the country's position as a credible partner in the emerging Asia-Pacific hydrogen economy.

Building on this momentum, H₂Malaysia recently concluded its Stakeholders' Meeting No. 2/2026, reaffirming members' commitment to advancing a coordinated and commercially viable hydrogen industry. The meeting marked an important milestone in the alliance's continued development, with members aligning on strategic priorities and future directions to strengthen industry collaboration and accelerate ecosystem growth.

Among the key outcomes were the formalisation of the H₂Malaysia brand, alignment on strategic priorities and performance targets, and the strengthening of governance structures to support long-term industry coordination, policy engagement, and investment facilitation. Members also reaffirmed their commitment to supporting industry-led initiatives that enhance project development, improve commercial readiness, and strengthen Malaysia's competitiveness within the regional hydrogen economy.

As President of H₂Malaysia, SEDCE said these developments reflect the alliance's growing role in bringing together industry stakeholders under a shared vision while strengthening the foundations needed to support long-term industry growth.

"The formalisation of the H₂Malaysia brand, together with stronger governance and clearer strategic alignment, represents an important step forward in the alliance's development. These efforts will enable H₂Malaysia to better support policy implementation, technology deployment, investment facilitation, and talent development while fostering greater collaboration across the hydrogen value chain," said SEDCE.

SEDCE added that the appointment of the new Policy Committee leadership further strengthens the alliance's ability to coordinate industry priorities and support Malaysia's ambitions of becoming a competitive participant in the regional and global hydrogen economy.
As the founding and coordinating body of H₂Malaysia, NMB continues to play a central role in shaping the alliance’s strategic direction and industry engagement agenda. In his capacity as the founding Chairman of H₂Malaysia, the CEO of NMB Prof (Adj.) Dr Rezal Khairi Ahmad provides strategic oversight and coordination, facilitating collaboration among industry stakeholders and government counterparts, and supporting initiatives in project development, regulatory engagement, and the establishment of industry standards.

Through this facilitative role, NMB, as an organisation, enables H₂Malaysia to advance its objectives of strengthening Malaysia’s hydrogen ecosystem, expanding commercial opportunities across the value chain, and enhancing the country’s position in the regional and global hydrogen economy.
